P/T Plugs AKA Pete's Plug in Chiller Systems

P/T plugs are a great way to easily and accurately get temperature and pressure readings in hydronic piping.

I came up calling them Pete's plugs.

When I got them at the supply house they all knew them as Pete's plugs.

I never truly looked into why it was called a Pete's plug.

Well I recently learned that it is actually P/T plug for "Pressure/Temperature".

P/T makes a lot more sense honestly but I only ever heard Pete's used in the field.

This style of plugs fall into the wet well (active well) category.

They will thread into a threaded tap on the hydronic pipe.

They have a rubber grommet inside of a brass housing to create the seal.

We use needle probes and taps to press through the grommet and get our readings.

Be careful not to use too large of a probe as it can damage the grommet and cause leaking.
