Analog devices in controls:
Inputs and outputs are a core fundamental with controls.
Another is Analog and Binary signals. Lets focus on analog signals today.
Old school analog devices were gauges with a mechanical needle that swings to give a reading.
But we’re talking electronic control systems so our use of the term changes a little.
Analog is a signal that can scale from 0% to 100%.
It doesn’t matter if it’s temp, pressure, position, speed, etc.
This is true whether it is an input or output.
I use the term signal here because these I/O can be a reference from a sensor or a command signal.
In summary, if the signal is adjustable or floating between 0% to 100% of the signal range then it is a analog I/O.
